Description of the TOEFL Test

 

Test Of English as a Foreign Langauge is a test to measure the level of English proficiency on nonnative of English. It is required primarily by English_langauge colleges- universities. Addititionally, institutions such as goverment agencies or scholarship programm may require the test.

The test currently has the following sections:

 

Listening Comprehension (multiple choice): To demonstrate their ability to understand spoken English, examinees must listen to a tape and respond to various types of questions.

 

Structure And Wrintten Expression (multiple choice): To demonstrate their ability to understand grammatically correct English, examinees must choose the correct way to complete sentences and must find errors in sentences.

 

Reading Comprehension (multiple choice): To demonstrate their ability to understand written English, ecaminees must answer questions about the meanings of words and ideas in reading passages.

 

Test of Written Englsih (TWE)(written): Examinees must write an essay on a given topic in thirty minutes to demonstrate their ability to correct and meaningful English. The Test of Written English (TWE) is not given with every administratoin of the TOEFL test. You should check the Bulletin of Information for TOEFL, TWE, and TSE for upcoming dares for this test.
